Newcastle News: Perez talks new deal, loanee sees red instantly, new striker sends message
Ayoze Perez insists he signed a new deal at Newcastle because off the trust the club has shown in him.
The 22-year-old striker has been linked with Manchester United and Tottenham but decided to sign a new five-and-a-half-year contract on deadline day.
"I am still young," he said. "I have to work a lot and I have a lot of years to improve as a player. I am happy here and I don't have to think of anything else.
"Newcastle gave me everything. They made me professional and I have to be pleased with the club. They signed me until 2021 - five years!
"They trust in me in this deal. So I say, 'Thanks' and now work harder and prove, and show on the pitch that I deserve it."
Ayoze Perez, Florian Thauvin, Seydou Doumbia
Newcastle loanee Florian Thauvin was sent off after just 10 minutes for Marseille last night.
The 23-year-old was a 59th-minute substitute in Marseille’s 1-0 Ligue 1 win at Montpellier.
But the Frenchman, who signed for Newcastle for £12million last summer, was red carded for a rash challenge on defender Virorino Hilton.
He apologised after the game, blaming “adrenaline” for his rash challenge
Seydou Doumbia is confident he can take on the responsibility of leading the line for Newcastle.
The 28-year-old joined the Magpies from Italian outfit Roma on loan with a view to a permanent deal in the January transfer window.
And he reckons he can adapt quickly and provide Newcastle with the goals they need to avoid relegation.
“It’s important to settle in quickly and make sure I’m well prepared. The last three weeks I’ve been preparing really well,” he said.
“It’s been important that I’m ready for that and I think I’ll be able to adapt really fast and help the team get the goals they need.”
